Assistant junior coach at the Combat Academy, Emma Baker followed up her recent success in the Welsh Submission fighting championships with a silver medal in the Bristol Open Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Championships. Competing in the womens under 60kg white belt category Emma faced a strong Portuguese opponent in her first fight. From the start her opponent pulled guard, but Emma was able to pass to side control to score 3 points. Moving to knee on stomach and then to mount Emma scored an additional 6-points. Her opponent managed to escape the hold and regain guard, but once again Emma passed the guard securing further hold-downs and taking the final score to 18-0.
In the final Emma faced Japanese fighter Aika Yamasaki from the Roger Gracie Academy. Emma opened the fight with an excellent takedown to take a two point lead. Emma then pulled guard and made several attempts to turn her opponent into a hold. As Emma tried to advance her position, Aika managed to secure a key-lock and despite a valiant attempt to escape Emma was forced to submit leaving her with a hard earned silver medal.
