Six members of the Combat Academy travelled to Dartford in Kent to compete in the Kent Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Open. 

Assistant coach at the academy, Emma Baker competed in the under 64kg Blue Belt category where she was looking to win her first gold medal since her recent promotion. Emma put in an excellent performance defeating Dominique Vitry of the Roger Gracie Academy and Pippa Granger of ECJJ on points to secure the championship title and her first gold medal at Blue Belt level.
Graham Coles competed in the White Belt Masters under 82kg category. Graham recorded a couple of good wins, including a win by triangle choke, en-route to the final. In the final he faced Gareth Beard of AFS where he recorded a points win to secure the championship title and Gold Medal.

Competing in the same category, Ty Husbands fought his way through to the semi-final on the other side of the draw. Unfortunately Ty lost to Carlson Gracie fighter Jeremy Powell in the fight for the bronze medal.

Andy Blanchard competed in the White Belt Masters under 88kg category and was unlucky to be drawn against the eventual gold medallist in his first fight. In the repechage Andy won his first fight and was leading for much of next. Unfortunately  with only 10 seconds of  the fight remaining his opponent managed to pass his guard to secure the win.

Pat 'Pega Leve' Baker competed in the Blue Belt Masters under 88kg category and was unlucky to face the eventual Gold medallist in his first fight and the Bronze medallist in his second. Both fights went the distance with Pat losing the first on points and the second by referee's decision.
