Two of Hereford's leading Judo players completed the gold double at the recent South of England Masters Judo Championships held at the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre.
Stan Cantril 4th dan, Herefords Sportsman of the Year 2001 and coach to the Combat Academy, started the year well by taking gold in this Queens Jubilee anniversary event. Cantril fought his way to the over 45's -81kgs gold medal, defeating all his opponents by the maximun possible ten points. In his last fight of the day he put his opponent away, again for ten points in less than 35 seconds.
Andy Morris 3rd Dan, and coach to the Hereford Judo Club took the gold medal in the 35 - 44, u90 kg section. After a bad start to the year at a recent competition in kidderminster, Andy stepped up a gear and found his form to secure the gold. Morris fought convincingly by defeating four out of five opponents by the maximun ten points score.
