Combat Academy chief instructor Dave Coles competed in the National Ju-Jutsu Kumite Council: Northern Championships held in Carlisle. Competing in the under 95kg category Coles faced an array of martial arts exponents. In his first contest he faced a 6" 3' 3rd Dan karate champion. Initially Coles struggled to cope with the range and power of the karate fighters punches and kicks, but half way through the fight Coles produced a massive pick up throw which he quickly followed up with an arm bar to secure victory.
Three further wins placed Coles in the final where he faced a Ju-Jutsu 4th Dan. The fight was a very close fought affair and with only 2 seconds of the fight remaining Coles produced a 3 point throw to take the gold medal.
