Nearly a Century!
The Groundfighting Competition was our biggest event to date. With a total of 96 competitors in 20 categories, including a Masters and Open. With all competitors having a minimum of two fights, there was a total of 147 fights.
Many thanks to everyone who helped on the door, tables, officiating and generally running around to ensure the smooth running of the event.
Also thank you to the following clubs that supported the event: Falcons, Gracie Barra Swansea, TJK Cheltenham, Gracie Barra Derby, Pedro Bessa Wales, Swansea Jiu Jitsu, TJK Gloucester, Danleight TJK, Blaenavon, and Next Generation MMA Liverpool.

Belts Awarded at Braulio Seminar
Following a seminar at the Combat Academy on Sunday 8 July, Braulio Estima promoted nine Academy members. First to be rewarded for their efforts was Academy coach Simon Small who was promoted to Purple Belt. Simon has competed at Blue Belt level for several years, taking medals in the Pan Americans, Europeans and Masters and Seniors. Blue Belts were awarded to Emma and Pat Baker. Both are regulars on the competition circuit, their technical ability is improving all the time, but their promotions were sealed when Braulio personally witnessed their outstanding performances at the Seni BJJ championships.
The following promotions were also awarded:
1 stripe white belt Andy Blanchard and Nick Hughes.
2 stripe white belt Neil Preedy and Dan Buckley
3 stripe white belt Chris K and Andrew Dudley

NJJKC Midlands Championships
Fourteen members of The Combat Academy took part in the NJJKC Midland area Ju Jutsu Kumite championships held in Worcester. The event is used as a qualifier for the British Championships, with the top four in each category being invited to compete for British titles at the end of the year.

Change of Premesis
We are delighted to announce that starting on Tuesday 29 May 2007, The Combat Academy will be located at Pyramid Fitness, a brand new fitness centre at 21-22 Foley Trading Estate Hereford HR1 2SF. The new venue offers changing rooms, showers, a sports café and will allow us to leave our mats in the training room, so no more unloading and loading the trailer! All lessons remain as normal at the Richmond Club up to and including Tuesday 22 May.

Due to increased rental costs, there will be a slight increase in training fees as follows:
Juniors £4.00
Seniors £5.00 per lesson.

Grappling Competition
Nagare En Ju Jitsu Academy are holding a Grappling Competition (Gi) on Sunday May 20th 2007. Nagare En have supported several of our events in the past and we are hoping to repay their support by taking a big team to this event. We will be hiring a mini-bus or coach to travel to the venue in Derby. See Pat or Dave for an entry form.
